Starr Homeplace will be holding it's fourth Community Day of 2008 on Saturday the 12th of July. Though all kinds of CREATIVITY are always welcome, this month we will focus on small crafts. If you do calligraphy, paper making, wood carving, batik, knitting, jewelry, beading or any other hand craft or art form, we hope you will come and join us and share your skill and interest.

We depend on what YOU bring to make things interesting!

Anyone with an interesting skill or hobby who wishes to teach or share it - is welcome to set up and demonstrate at any time. It does NOT have to relate to the focus of any particular month. It does not have to be old technology either, any creative endeavor will be welcomed. Events will be held on the second Saturdays of April - October. This is an opportunity for hands on experience, not just a place to come and look. There will be a presentation on gourd craft, and some music, after lunch.

This is likely to be the last month to review and offer items to be included in our Cultural Landscape Map of Northeastern Louisiana. High Schools, Libraries, Museums, and Cultural institutions may receive a copy of the map by request at Starr Homeplace. The maps will be free to these entities on the condition that they be prominently displayed.

It would be wonderful if all of this could be free. IT IS! Lunch is served for a contribution. (Ham and Tomato sandwiches) No Admission is charged.

In the greater scheme, however, we are seeking your financial help. We need operating funds to continue. Even more than that, however, we need substantial endowment funds to place the institution on a sound and more permanent financial footing. If you are able to help with these needs, please contact Joe C. Rolfe via E-mail or in person (preferably NOT on a Community Day), so that funding opportunities can be explained.
